A Q&A with Rachael Beesley from QUARTZ
What is your goal/s for your Local Heroes series in 2016?
Present exhilarating performances of dynamic and innovative string quartet repertoire in the stunning acoustics of the Salon.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Being fully present and engaged in the moment.
What do you think about when you perform live?
Feeling the energy and beauty of the music and connecting on an emotional plane with colleagues and the audience.
Which historical figure do you most identify with and why?
Whichever composer I'm performing today, as I'm making a connection in time through their experience of composing with the present moment.
Where is your favourite place on Earth and why?
Melbourne - it's home!
Who is your ideal audience?
An interested and receptive audience who are willing to go on a journey with the musicians.
What is your favourite piece of music and why?
As musicians, it's not our role to favour one piece of music over another, we have to embody and delve into every work with the same passion and dedication.
How did you come to play your instrument/s?
At the age of 6, I heard that the violin was the most difficult instrument in the world to play - so I thought that's for me and I'm eternally grateful to have made that decision!!
